Financing Energy Efficiency-Based Carbon Offset Projects at Duke University

2.7.17 | Greenhouse Gas Accounting, RECs and Offsets

Duke University has made a voluntary commitment to be carbon neutral by 2024. The University has estimated it will be able to reduce its emissions by about half through on-campus measures, but will need to find ways to offset the remaining emissions through local greenhouse gas emissions reduction projects (carbon offsets). In order for projects to be considered carbon offsets, they need to pass a rigorous “additionality test.” To read more about what qualifies as a carbon offset and how Duke University is planning to finance such projects, click here.
